did anyone watch this on Monday night? i think it was on RTE1.

documentary focusing on the elderly in ireland; loneliness, depression, and sometimes suicide. im such a wuss, i cried through most of it. the long lingering close-up shots of an old pair of hands and the lonely stares out the window....i was in pieces!

i do hope that it has some kind of effect though and that people are more considerate of their elderly relatives.....going for days on end without having anyone to talk to must be awful. i thought it was very well put-together, had some good interviews with psychiatrists and charitiy groups too.

there was one dude who had lost his wife the year before - they got together when they were both in their early teens....and then last year she died and yer man was sooooo sad.....i really believe you can die of a broken heart - he looked on the verge of it
