A Place To Bury Strangers have often been called "the loudest band in New York". This may very well be the case, but unlike much so-called "loud" rock and roll that's out there, APTBS is not loud simply for the sake of it. The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own, fostered by an unbridled passion that's clearly evident in every live show they play and each recording they make. A Place To Bury Strangers does not so much play songs as allow them to pour out. They are songs about longing, heartbreak and confusion played extremely well and at a passionately loud volume.

first band at 6.

looks like i might have been right there.

arrived down at 9.30, bouncer tells us the last band are just on...10.05 gig over. WTF???

anyone know what time they actually started? or is this APTBS's thing?

they started at 9:29pm exactly.

I had to leave at 9:55pm. At that stage they still hadn't turned on the singer's mic.

seems I didn't miss much. I enjoyed the bit I saw. Probably would have liked it more if it wasn't all instrumental.

fuck me though, it was loud. When I left you could hear it half-way up exchequer st. Deffo time to invest in ear-plugs

Percolator and Sweet Jane supported

APTBS started off fairly poor, vocals really low (even bu shoegazey standards). Was hard to distinguish what songs were being played with the sound essentially being noise and drums

The last few songs were better, and the closer was deadly (15+ mins); the guitarist tore off his strings amid mid-song antics; rubbing them off the pickups for some mad feedback and doing some FX knob-twiddling before locating a second guitar to finish the song

They only played for 35 mins, most of it a mess... but the theatrical finish redeemed it a bit
