the hub, eustace street, dublin

A Lazarus Soul play The Hub this coming Thursday night, with Crumb (featuring ex members of Mexican Pets, The Sewing Room and Hey Paulette) and Leabady. It’s only 7 bucks in, and there’s a bogey indie club afterwards too. A Lazarus Soul are on at 10:40pm.

The new A Lazarus Soul record (‘Graveyard Of Burnt Out Cars’) is due out in early 2005. It was recorded by Joe Chester in August ‘04 (all over Dublin).

Crumb is Derrick Dalton's new band (old bass player from the Pets), with Dez and Eamonn.

I play drums with A Lazarus Soul.

And Ed is correct. The bogeyer (!) the indie club the better.

which members of the pets will be in attendance please?

These lads have a new record

And if you grew up in Ireland in the 70s/80s, this song is so fucking particular to the school experience
Like I knew these young fellas
We're all scattered now but Jesus, this hits home

thats Joe Chester innit
Yup

Last two records have been great

It's a pity Lankum have been soaking up all the energy, cos this is real proper folk shit
I almost feel like you'd have to have lived it to appreciate it though - what does Pitchfork know about the flats and long balconies? - so maybe there's that

Didn’t find this particular to any school experience I had growing up in Ireland in the 80s

Maybe before my time

I grew up in Dublin
And most of the people I knew went to Christian Brothers schools

Getting walloped and belittled by angry culchie teachers was part of the experience.
The type of spare-the-rod lads that would kick you in the shins and carried a hurl.
Certainly in the 70s this was widespread, lightened up as the 80s went on.

remember that Bryan MacFadden song where he sang about getting battered by christian brothers but then it turned out he didn't go to a christian brothers and he used some school in howth in the video and they were raging cos it made out like the kids there got battered

this is nothing like that

I saw lads get their heads smashed into desks, kicked, slapped, shoved, and humiliated until they would finally cry

My experience was not particularly special

But I'm mostly thinking of Joey's, O'Connells, Aidan's, David's

Maybe they were too lawyered up in Sutton

Ah I didn’t make it to Christian brothers until 1995

They stopped the hardcore batterin by then
