My reel-to-reel 8-track has started to put a wobble (sounds like someone using delay (flanging) to create a tremolo / vibrato effect) all over the playback. At this point I can't tell if the problem is going to tape at the recording stage. Anyone come across this before. Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the tape path, make sure nothing is rubbing or moving the tape in any way.
Get out the isobropyl achohol and clean all the metal bits in the tape path.
Don't use it on the rubber bits, though.
Try playing back a tape you recorded before the problem started to see if it's just on playback.
It's more likely to be both.

If/when you decide to get it looked at properly, call NJM in Harold's Cross.

Thanks boss. What's the story with cleaning the rubber bits then? does iso alcohol harm them?
Also, do you got a number for NJM?

Yeah, it does.
You need to get hold of a dedicated rubber cleaner.
The iso drys out the rubber and it can crack and shit.

NJM are on 4963160
