    Lisbon Treaty

As a no voter myself (and most definitely not of the Cóir persusasion), you can go and fuck yourself. Spitting at anybody is unacceptable.

    Lisbon Treaty

Because it is better to allow the people the opportunity to alter the document that defines their country?

    Lisbon Treaty

You're right, it is a load of me hole - people made a free choice as to whether to vote or not to vote. Unless people were prevented from voting, there is nothing undemocratic about it.

    Lisbon Treaty

In my view, not in the case of making changes to the fundamentals concerning governance.

    Lisbon Treaty

I have a problem with it because I don't believe that the people in the other EU states elected their governments with the madate of not consulting them on a fundamental change to the European Union. They elected them to govern and make decisions relating to their own internal state. The...

    Lisbon Treaty

My point is, that Ireland is the exception as it's the only country that is obliged to have a referendum. And this is my problem. Of course other countries have the option to hold referenda if they want to but they are not legally required to. Again, this is my problem. That is why I think...

    Lisbon Treaty

Ireland is the exception in cases of EU referenda; we have to hold a referendum, whether the government likes it or not. This is what the Crotty case laid down. However, Ireland is not the exception when it comes to countries in the EU holding referenda in general - most countries have had...

    Lisbon Treaty

I thought the main reason we were being asked to vote was because we have to amend our constitution to allow the treaty. Yes. We have to do this because of the Crotty case, where the Supreme court found that the people had to be consulted on changes to EU law. If other countries don't need...

    Lisbon Treaty

My 2 cent as follows: The Lisbon Treaty is the successor to the EU Constitution that was being voted on across the EU some time ago. The France and Dutch electorates voted no to that Constitution, and a period of reflection was entered into by the EU. The Lisbon Treaty, a reform treaty...

    Ivana Bacik

Janer, you're so pro-life you went to a pro-choice demo and you didn't even heckle Ivana Bacik when she spoke. The one heckle you did make was deeply un-punk like - feeble would be more like it. I've seen a lot better than that from pro-lifers. You're only good for lame-ass trolling on...

Fight For Women's Right to Choose!

I agree - leaflets and pamphlets are only useful in communicating a stance or a viewpoint and then in changing opinions. Ultimately, legislation is needed - firstly for the X type cases, as promised by the Oireachtas in 1992 and in 2002, then a constitutional referendum on non X case type...

Fight For Women's Right to Choose!

I'm genuinely puzzled as to why you think the pro-choice side are happy with the current law. Would you mind telling me why? As it stands, abortion is illegal except in X case type scenarios. If an Irish woman wants an abortion, she has to travel outside Ireland. This is completely unacceptable.

Fight For Women's Right to Choose!

You answered your own question! We are looking to legalise abortion here. In my original post of this thread, you can find out more about what Choice Ireland hopes to achieve.

Fight For Women's Right to Choose!

It was great in that the logistics went well, we raised some funds, pro-choice people came out to hear what we had to say, it got a bit of media attention, raised the issue of abortion and its illegality in public once more.

Fight For Women's Right to Choose!

I wondered if the heckler was you Janer! Thanks for coming along regardless, but I have to say that that was the worst heckle I've ever seen, of any speaker on any demo I've ever been on - you could hardly be heard. The only thing you did was to make yourself look foolish. We had a great rally...

I thought I had a soft tooth From what I can see, the only thing you have is a hatred of women and a lack of respect for the choices they might make.

    New Interpol single

Just like the new Editors album, imho - good in itself, but disappointing if anyone is hoping for any sort of evolution of their song writing.
