Need to buy a pressie so can anyone recommend a really good bottle of whiskey?

Cheers for the recs and old thread link, i've a cash and carry card for Marcro in Belfast who've a brill selection should the recommendations be far reaching.

I buy my beers up there too and the selection by the case I doubt can be bettered anywhere on the island.

Go for Jameson. If they're very old, Bushmills

a mate of mine who drinks whiskey the way i drink tea (i.e. lots) swears by glenmorangie

I'd disagree with all of the above. Not that the Jameson or Glenmorangie aren't drinkable, they're just bland.

Laphroaig is great stuff. Lagavulin better again.

Ah Laphroaig is grand as a wee dram but a whole bottle is very fuckin daunting. I gave my uncle a generous measure of it the other night and it took him over three hours to drink it.
