Re:JINN

Thank christ JINN are playing. I don't know if anyone else has heard em yet but they're excellent. And listen out for the "Biscuits and Tea" song. Mc Fuck, are they playing Saturday or Sunday? (Bear in mind the preferred answer to this question would be Saturday cos I'm not gonna be there Sunday...)

actually if you haven't heard them yet, you can do so by going here:

I reccomend you do this as soon as possible, for your own sake.

this is almost exactly the same line-up as last year.. i dont really see the point in that and i'm sure theres load of people from loads of bands around the country who are disapointed that they wont ever get to play the festival while loads of others will be playing for the second time in a row. oh well.. guess it's your choice an all.
anyhow, someone mentioned before there was a chance that there might be a big pre-fest gig on the friday in the front page. is that still planned?

The fact that many bands are playing for the second year in a row is not really any different to the way gigs happen anywere. It's all about who you know.
Anyone in a city with regular gigs who knows promoters is just as"guilty" of similar crimes.

i now have a mental picture of cuddly toys with toy guitars dancing around going "biscuits and teeeeeeaaa, biscuits and TEEEEEAAAAAA" with bingly bongly jangly music playing in the background....go jamie :)

actually i think you're wrong. its a totally different story at normal, local gigs then at a big festival like the warzone. say if a touring band comes over to play, unless its at the weekend (rare unless you can afford it) or if they're well known (rare cos if they are usually mcd are doing it), chances are your gonna get a reasonably small crowd (between 35-65 usually). most of the time its a struggle to pay the band well when you consider the venue costs, flyers, posters, phone calls, food, etc. And usually because the touring band isnt known, you have to put on known local bands to draw a crowd. as well, i'd love to put on more bands from outside dublin on here, but if its a gig with a touring band from outside the country, thats almost always impossible to do because you have to cover extra travel costs then as well.

the fest, on the otherhand, is pretty much gonna be jammers no matter what, i'd say a good number of people there dont give a fuck who is playing apart from one or two bands.
don't mean to make a big deal out of this, i just think you need to put a bit of perspective on it...
and knifed play probably more gigs in dublin than anyone else (with maybe one exception), so ...

Gigs

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't talking about the fest.
I was talking about gigs in general, a lot of the time when bands want to play at gigs it all comes down to who knows who. Nothing is judged on how good the band might actually be. Happens all the time in Belfast.
And even then, in some cases its understandable.

Knifed

Damo to be fair, Scientic Bong seemed to have a monopoly on the gigs there a while back..as did Bastard Youth last year, as did someone else the year before,yadayadayada..It's not entirely Knifed's fault if people keep asking them to do gigs now is it?

It's a decent line-up but a bit one-dimensional... would have been nice to see some new N. Irish bands on there. No Less My Life, No Hero, sub60, The Evangelists, The Mugshots, P45, Element, Real Bad Fall, Acupunkture, Anti-Sam, Mellow Dramatic, Gama Bomb, Too Fat For Porn etc - all great bands who would give the Fest a bit of colour! And as far as I know, Rodan and Yakuza have never played a Fest, despite knocking about the scene for years...
