I feel like locking this thread because it has retarded arguments on both sides. Though the last page or so is made up of others just going "awful thread, cop on lads" etc
But at least my post had lyrics slagging off hardline. Right? Right? Ah ...

This is easily one of the worst threads in the history of the internet. I'm just glad I could play my part.
I beg to differ.i think it's quite pointless for Smalley to even say that. Maybe he started drinking to see the light and become a genius like Hendrix?
regardless if someone drinks, takes drugs or not - they do have that talent within them. I personally agree that drugs had nothing to do with it.
I beg to differ.
Cypress Hill could not have written 'hits from the bong' without taking hits from the bong.
Likewise, Dr Dre couldn't have written 'the chronic' without smoking the chronic.

Great contributions to late-Twenthieth Century culture, a fact no one can deny...
Not entirely on the point either, but I like the Bill Hicks statement, if just as a witty polemic:
that if you're anti-drugs go home now and burn all your records, because the history of rock-n-roll wouldn't exist without various kinds of intoxication along the way.
To balance out my last two posts, an anti-drinking ramble:
All that said, now that I live abroad, I've noticed that the Irish attitude to drinking is way off the scale, and looking back at my own trail of destruction over the last 12 or so years, I am considering the semi-straight-edge lifestyle:
no more getting really locked ever again (exemption: while trapped in family occasions);
having a drink for the enjoyment of the (good-quality) beer or wine is OK, rather then just to get drunk;
tell everyone about my attitude to drink as if it means something (this post is a good start);
yes to oral sex on the first date.
The first two (the serious ones) I think even a slightly-alcoholic person like me can handle... as long as they stay outside Ireland. Something I noticed when back, outside central Dublin at least, was there is nowhere to socialise, or even go read a book on your own, that is not a pub. I think the best thing that could have happened to Ireland was if they let that cafe-bar licence law in a few years ago. The only alternatives down the country (after six) are resteraunts (you can't just go have a coffee/a single drink) or take-aways (hideous).
Fuck Irish pubs: fuck their expensiveness, fuck their cultural monopoly, fuck their arrogance.
Maybe I'm just turning into a cantankerous bastard in my old(er) age.
I'll take it to Lifestyle...
