Scottish Independence (2 Viewers)

just been down to parliament for a gawk, none of my useless prick mates could be arsed going along. still worth it to experience the vibe...before the dream dies

mainly yessers, a handful of no pricks, and foreign journos striding about doing pieces to tape in german and italian and whatnot

Fair play to you.

lot of yes goin' on there

might be cos the old tory bastards who're voting no can't work twitter though

a load of yesses coming from catalonia there!

i'm watching live pontificating and coverage of nothing happening yet on STV:

plenty of good discussion going on if you've got nothing better to do, like going to sleep

think it's time for a strategic nap and get up when votes have started coming in

not an exit poll, and sampled approximately 0.07 % of about ~3.5m voters

YouGov bases its prediction on the responses of 1,828 people after they voted today, together with those of 800 people who had already voted by post.

*i don't know what kind of percentage exit polls typically cover, maybe that's standard

A sample size of approaching 2,000 tends to be pretty accurate.

If I'm working this thing right Sample Size Calculator - Confidence Level, Confidence Interval, Sample Size, Population Size, Relevant Population - Creative Research Systems

to get a +/- 5% accuracy out of a population of 3.5m you only need to poll about 700 people and if they're polling 1800 it should be accurate to a little over 3%

Edit: Misread, there's 2,600

depends how they selected the sample then - it has to be truly random for those rules to hold

postal votes favour older voters who favour no for one thing (a bunch of lads were talking about that on STV a minute ago)

it does seem a bit no-ish at the moment though :(

Northern Ireland debate

A "Yes" victory could put Northern Ireland's constitutional status in question.
If there is a "No", there will be a debate over what extra powers, if any, should be given to Stormont. That could include devolution of corporation tax to help NI compete with the lower rate of corporation tax in the Republic of Ireland.
