The conversation around trans people online had a similar effect on formative teens to the point that 80% or so people presenting looking for puberty blockers were actually just kids who'd drawn an entire narrative from the internet.

In right wing spheres a lot of women who follow a tradwife account are probably mostly doing it because it's entertainment, retro dresses and the odd agreeable thing, and a tiny % of youngones will take it litertally and move to australia with some dickhead. Similarly in left circles online the conversation got so prevalent you had teens in multiple countries presenting for a new gender because they were pissed off teens looking for a narrative. It happened and it's documented. People online haven't really come to terms with that yet so far.
