It's just a bit unrealistic, to say the least.
McGeady is very useful for Ireland, because he's one of the only players we have that can hold the ball up even when the opposition has 3 defenders on top of him. Ireland need this, because most of the team is slow as fuck coming up to support. This isn't going to change, unless all of a sudden the Spanish or German national squad declare they all have Irish grandparents and FIFA let them switch to us.
All we are really missing is a working central midfield if you ask me. If we had Roy Keane in there with Whelan, that team would be fucking great right now, I reckon.

Wrong holding the ball up does not involve running down a blind alley and winning a throw.

McGeady definitely provides more end product these days. Still frustrating, but him and Duff are really crucial to the way Thrap wants to play.

i'll never question your commitment, wc, always 110%, but the best way to corral our bovine cloggers is to harness them in the old familiar. thus far we're doing pretty well in our qualifying group, a tanning by a seriously declining Communist Overloards side aside. if we get to next years jamboree, we'll all be pretty happy, right? and we're all reasonably chipper about the fact that there's 4-5 distinctly average forwards occasionally pretending to be injured when called up. plus we've won our first bit of Pointless Tin since the triangular tournament in 1987. this is salad days for the boys in green, and you want to go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "fourthreethree"

in the future, when our lithely athletic second generation african midfileders who like to go in over the ball and shoot on sight from 45 yards, and our studiously depressed polish dead ball specialists are all integrated in our, lets face it, four four two, run of the mill, humdrum society and football team, then maybe we'll have the tools to change the habits of a lifetime. for now we're getting excited about a man whose name is mickeys and has scored once in the premier league.

i think you should have a goo at the list of trophies that the trap has won, then compare bank balances, then wonder why they put him in charge and not you. you should go for the everton job instead.
