The arc of how people consume music and movies seems headed in one direction, to me anyway.

I mean I miss record shops and all, but it's like trying to save cooperage.

I think there a swathes of people who still enjoy shopping as an activity rather than an app. People love buying shit and HMV sells lots of shit people want to buy.

ETA: Cooperage also still exists. Very few industries are ever actually fully replaced. They may be diminished but few professions ever actually just vanish completely.

Recovery specialist Hilco will open several HMV stores within weeks.

Shops on Dublin's Henry Street, at Liffey Valley, Dundrum Centre and in the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick will roll up the shutters soon. A fifth outlet is likely to be added over summer and several more are on the target list, including a return to somewhere on Grafton Street.
Recruitment of around 100 staff will start rolling out in the coming week.
It is said that between €3.5m and €4m will be invested in start-up and stock.

So are we gonna bring back cooperage as well?

Get all the auld lads from the guild back together for one last heist

i miss going into HMV in blanch of a saturday morning with the kid.

Myself and the wife were saying after it closed down that we were kind of surprised because the queues used to massive in that branch. I've heard rumours that Golden Discs is meant to be moving in there.

When they're shutting down operations in the whole country unfortunately they don't really pay particular attention to the individual stores. When game shut down the branch my friend worked in, the Illac one, was one of the most profitable branches in the whole group, and had been for some years.

100 jobs and thats not great news?

fucks sake.

100 jobs is obviously good. But what about all the lost jobs because thy got it wrong again and again and again. Albeit quite some time ago,I worked for HMV and they like many big companies have a tendency to go for the quick unthought out fix. If they don't make big changes then there's a very very good chance that those 100 jobs could turn into 100 jobless again very quickly.

But blanch wasn't on the list of shops opening again & the unit is still vacant...
