So The Vault Of Horror was just on Channel 4... Was deadly!

I'd never seen it before.. I love those old horror compendiums. Ironic deaths! Twist endings! Camp English guys! All those movies have a certain feel that you don't get anywhere else.

Are there any lesser known English horrors (non-Hammer) that I should know about, compendiums or otherwise?

Amicus were another Brit Studio that was in competition with Hammer.

Amicus Production Company - filmography

Of those the Anthology films are

The Monster Club

The Vault of Horror

From Beyond the Grave

Asylum

Tales from the Crypt

The House That Dripped Blood

Torture Garden

Dr. Terror's House of Horrors

They are all great and definally worth watching. The only one I'm not mad about is the last one they did The Monster Club - the framing device was (mostly) terrible with poor halloween shop masks.

Great, thanks for the info!

I've seen The Vault of Horror, From Beyond the Grave, Tales from the Crypt, The House That Dripped Blood and Dr. Terror's House of Horrors but didn't realise they were all the same studio.

Remember that Steve Coogan show that was a similar thing? I can't remember if it was any good but I watched it at the time.

Great thread!

I love those kinda movies.

Alan I think you can stream Tales of the Unexpected somewhere.

Best opening sequence ever.

I love those old amicus portmanteau things aswell

I haven't seen The monster club, From beyond the grave or The torture garden.... maybe I have, but it was so long ago.

I remember another one called The Uncanny. I don't think it was an Amicus production. Peter Cushing's in one of the stories. He's gets attacked by a load of cats.
