F**K!!!
I'm destroyed with it today :(
Anyone get the hayfever jab? Does it work?

What do you take for it? I have been taking Clarityn on and off for years, and I think it's great. I take it all year round, since I'm allergic to just about everything, but I take breaks from it for a few weeks at a time, during less allergenic seasons, just so I won't build up a tolerance.

Doesn't make you drowsy at all, and doesn't have any kind of speedy rubbish in it that some of them do, but you have to take it for a few weeks before it starts to really work.

the jab works wonders provided u can find a doc to give it to u. last time i went looking for it (2000), the doc refused cos theres something in it which sticks round in your body for 2-3 years. Always mean to get it but then its hay fever time and its no use then

best stock up on Zirtek then - its the only thing i've ever found which can tackle the bastard. It doesnt make u feel drowsy either

really?
my hayfever has really diminished in recent years, still haven't been affected this year even though i was rollicking on grasslands last week. usually one clarityn tab does it for me if it does play up.

I've been taking Clarityn for the last week or so but I seem to have a year off/ year on tolerence to the stuff - it's not working this year.
Clarityn zones me out, makes me feel really dopey.
Gonna try Zirtek again before I resort to the shot.

That's strange about Clarityn. Most stuff does make me dopey, even things that aren't supposed to (like breathing, being awake, thinking, etc), but it never does that to me. I think once you've been taking it for a while, it works immediately, but I remember when I first got it it took a couple of weeks before it worked. I was put on it when they took Seldane off the market about 10 or 12 years ago, after they found out that one of its side effects was 'sudden death'.

I don't think I'd go for the jab. I prefer to have control over when I take stuff, so I wouldn't like having it in my body indefinitely.

Yeah, try the Zirtek. Also, though I must sound like I'm on commission for it, acupuncture might help. Or herbal treatments from a specialist. Apparently, eating locally-produced honey can help you build up a tolerance to pollen, though I'm not really sure how, why, or if that's utter bullshit. In any case, honey is yummy, so any excuse to eat it is fine with me.

My sincerest condolences. I appear to be cured this year for the first time in 15 years. .|..|

When I did have it, there was *nothing* that could cure me. It was horrible. DOOOOOOOOMMMM

I hate hayfever, so annoying. i always load up on Zirtek but it doesn't do much unfortunately. Ever year I say I am going to get that jab next summer, once again i have forgotten to do it.

I used to get it really badly, when I was in third class doing PE one time I went blind because my eyes swelled up so much. Scarey shit. Hasn't affected me in years though.

All y'all that are having troubles with it have my sympathies.

Eating local honey is meant to help. As is smearing the inside of your nose with vaseline as it catches the pollen before it heads up and causes irritation.

I tried the honey thing before - no joy.
I reckon I've tried almost everything outside of the jab and acupunture over the years.
Very little seems to work for me.
I got NeoClarytin last year. That stuff worked wonders.
Gonna have to pay the doc a visit.

I think you have to get the jab in, like, Feburary, for to be in full effect for May... I *think*

I got some gear called 'Tissue Salts' from a homeopathic place years ago and it is the only thing that works for me... these are them...

These things changed my life, well recomended

Beconase works for me. it's a nasal spray. smells like flowers but gets rid of the shit blocked up hay fever feeling. Available from all pharmacies (terms and conditions apply)

probably been said already but you need to get the jab well before the season begins... april-ish methinks

i got it once and it was shit.

my hayfever's worst manifestation is the super mega itchy eyes, so much pain... so eye drops and the odd clarityn usually take the main pain away, one of those nasal sprays the odd time too, bring it everywhere to make you look like a real nerd

and i've been feeling it the last couple of days too, damn good weather :)

Wearing sun glasses really help if its runny eyes - apparently sunshine makes your eyes more sensitive, and then the hayfever goes mad...
Bonus: you get a good excuse to walk around looking like a rock star..

I got these herbal drops I take (ask in health store and try things out) and the coolest thing: this chewinggum for when its urgent! It actually helps and it is made with herbs but taste like normal chewinggum - dont know if you can get it in ireland though, its finnish and the active ingridient is 'perilla leaf'.
Anyway, it's deadly - i am a rockstar wearing sunglasses all day chewing and looking cool!

BALLS

Mines kicked in with a vengeance. My face is swollen and I can't stop sneezing which is making it hard to get any work done.
Also my eyes are stinging and I'm suddenly very very tired.

Oh also, there's the added bonus of biting your tongue all the time when you sneeze. Hella fun. And snots. Everywhere.

Moan moan moan, I know. As a great man once said; first world problems.

However, I wish those of you who don't suffer from it a very happy summer. Be thankful.
