Fly posting Idea for Dublin (1 Viewer)

More or less the same idea started up Things You're Missing.

IPA are pretty pricey though. They have a deal with some crowd for printing out stuff (and they don't do less than fifty prints). It has to be wet-back paper as well - so it's a specialist printer for those posters. And all this ultimately jacks up the price. I have more info on that on me home PC.
And they don't own all the poster-hoardings. JCDecaux have quite a few as well... as do Viacom.

I think IPA charge 3.80 for a 30x40 poster BUT if there's more than one gig listing on it they charge more (don't know what).

Down here (in cork) the billboard people don;t charge extra - you coud have 4 or 5 gigs on the one poster BUT it's 6 euro per 30x40 per week to hang them + vat! I don't know about the rest of the country.

Screenlink do 50 or 60 30x40's 1 colour for something like 130-150 euro.

CMJ do 60 cmyk (full colour) 30x40's for 499 + vat and 100 for 699 + vat

serious question - do you think there's any real benefit in those side of road posters?
i mean if nobody has any idea who your band are, even if you are on the side of the road - it's hardly gonna make them go, is it?
if that makes sense...internet hype and message board banter will probably be more beneficial and cheaper. oh yeah go check out giveamanakick

Screenlink are the crowd IPA were recommending. They don't do less than 50 though. If you do one poster which is broken up into say two or three (graphically man!) there's no problem with that.

Actually, how much do Whelan's charge for doing the billboard posters for gigs they've got on? I presume they've got some sort of batch deal with IPA and whoever they go through.

i personally don't place much stock in Billboards, especially for alternative stuff where there's a healthy word of mouth system anyway.

For your Shania Twain's/Point gigs/etc it might be necessary as the kind of poeple who go to those shows tend not to buy the music press and a lot of older people aren't au fait with the interweb thingy.

I could be wrong but I don't think I've ever seen a billboard for any of Hag's gigs and they seem to do pretty well and similarly Bandicoot down here never use billboards either to the best of my knowledge and their shows seem to do fine.

A billboard for an small alt/indie gig might draw an extra 50 people in but say the gig is a tenner adm - that will bring in an extra 500 euro. Printing would be 150 approx, plus hanging them for two weeks in dublin would add approx 400 euro so you're losing 50 euro at a mimimum, if the billboard draws in less then 50 people who would have gone anyway then you're talking serious loss.
