52FUNK PROUDLY PRESENTS DANIEL WANG ( BALIHU/ENVIRON) + MARK ALLTON
Kennedy's, Westland Row, Dublin 2
Sat 9 Aug. Doors 11pm
12 euro/8e with flyer
Daniel Wang returns to Dublin to play an intimate gig for 52funk in Kennedy's basement.
With nigh-on 15 years of production experience, Wang is one of the true pioneers of the 'Cosmic Disco' sound that is so popular on dancefloors around the world these days. What's more, his informative and opinionated record sleeve notes are a breath of fresh air in a dance music world filled with faceless, dull dj's and bedroom producers.
A host of groundbreaking releases on his own Balihu label and on Metro Area's Environ imprint have made Wang a cult hero for DJ's and producers alike. His tracks have been included on compilations by labels as diverse as Compost, Rong and Naked Music, to name just three.
The likes of Bob Sinclair, Dimitri from Paris, and Rub'n'Tug have licensed his tracks for their DJ mixes, with James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy of LCD Soundsystem including Wang's 1993 classic 'Like Some Dream ( I Can't Stop Dreaming) last year's highly acclaimed 'FabricLive' mix.
Now living in Berlin, Wang is a joy to behold as he blasts through his collection of euro-disco, cosmic boogie, Garage and Loft classics, and vintage house and electro - smiling, clapping and singing along to the music as he goes. He'll be taking a breather from the recording of his new LP to play yet another set for the Downtownsounds/52funk stable - this is his 5th visit to the capital in 4 years and we're certainly hoping it's not his last!
