Wow, this is another beauty but it's VERY mellow and downbeat, even by his own standards. There's not a Lion to be killed on it, but the songs are carried along by some subtle piano, clarinet and hushed percussion. The whole record sounds like it's wandering a lonely street at night, looking for a late drink. Shades of Leonard Cohen and Elliot Smith both darken and illuminate this record, and I can already tell that it's going to get better each listen.
