Got a taxi ride home from town a few weeks ago from a Nigerian taxi driver. I was well on so engaged him in conversation about African music, mentioning Fela Kuti. He completely went off on one. Bizarre nonsensical rant the gist of which was (I think) that Fela is from a completely different tribe/ethnic group and hence he has no time whatsoever for that kind of malarkey and recommended this character to me instead:

I then got out of the taxi forgetting to pay him. He wasn't impressed.

Completely forgot to post this. Cosmic African awesomeness. Video by Tommyboy from the much-missed Arawa.fm.

Konono No.1 playing in Whelans April 12th ...

after months of rotation on my ipod I finally succumbed to buying this set today. 125 euro incl. p&p from the states. I had planned on hemorrhaging a jar of coins i'd collected over the past few months on vinyl anyway so completely guilt free purchase too. hopefully it won't get kicked around too much en route...

I absolutely love it. When I ever get a proper paying job again I'll maybe buy it.
