just got our first 'we gonna screw you in court' letter after 3 years of non payment. 21 days or we commence legal procedings, from some company called 'intrum justitia'. anybody gone down this route before?

yeah we got the same letters, got 3 of them from same crowd, then we moved to a new gaff and let the landord trash it out with them. our old landlord rents loads of property and had a big dispute with them so told us not to pay it.

we are now getting threatening letters from a crowd looking for UPC money from us, threatening to "send an agent to our house"

is your letter addressd to you by name or "the occupier". If the latter, I'd ignore it 100%

Its actually my name, but i never gave it to them or voluntereed it to the landlord, also am only one of 4 people living in the house.. no idea why they chose me.

hmmm, if they have your name they can summon you (I think). i'd say the landord gave them your name. I think the only way to avoid paying this without getting legal advice is to move house.

what about calling them saying i've been forwarded this letter from my old house, and say that i moved out 2 years ago

maybe ask them for a copy of the contract which states you agreed to be provided with their service? that might back them off.

i'd say they'll just point at the law, which almost certainly allows them to levy charges without a written contract.

could he counter that by saying he did use the service? can they prove he actually placed the bins out for collection? maybe a neighbour had robbed his bin and been using it for the past 2 years. can they prove otherwise?

depending on where you live, you have a service charge anyway. my service charge (dublin city council) is €92 a year, with lift charges on top. so not putting bins out will probably not exclude you from being billed.
