Assquakes' Jonny Ilan will be guiding us through the story of popular urban culture. He will be cutting up music, images and video bites in his own inimitable style whilst giving us a rightious education of whats what in urban music, thats sure to be one of the most interesting and entertaining afternoons of the year.
Heres more detail... 'Satchmo to Sinden': Race, Class, Culture and the Evolution of Urban Music
Dr.Jonathan Ilan presents a 'light' lecture, heavy on video-clips, which locates the evolution of urban music within the context of powerful social and cultural forces. Urban music is a site of contradiction, where the music of poor, Black youth is sold by white, middle-class professionals, to a global market growing in its complexity. The lecture charts the music's historic evolution in the US, UK and Jamaica: focusing on the intricate interplay between class, race and culture underpinning its development, before marvelling at how globalisation and hypercommunication are changing the way in which the 21st Century audience experiences it.
When we get educated there will be celtic types playing Rugby on the tellys followed by Nic, Evlis and Melodee.
Can you dig it? (Thats from the film Warriors- modern culture see!)
Starts 3pm
Free Entry
Rugby starts 5pm
