I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro with a MIDI-in, and it looks like the cheaper versions are USB only.

This worth getting, or are there better, similarly priced alternatives?

Yes, imo.
Loads of keys, faders, knobs.
I had an m-aduio ozone and liked it a lot.

Should be grand, depending on your requirements. I have the 2octave version.

note however, there's no midi in or thru, or foot controller jack (as opposed to foot-switch jack - which it does) if you care about that sort of thing.

Nah you should be grand.
If you've just got a simple laptop USB style setup you should be grand.

The In and Thru are handy if you want to sync up other equipment, and the data input footswitch is great for moving filters etc. without having to use your hands. But if you don't need to do this you're grand.
