The Rachel Corrie Rebuilding Campaign in Gaza has been nominated for a GlobalGiving.com competition.

People throughout the world can vote online and rate the entries they deem best. The Gaza project is one of only two in the Human Rights category. 15 semifinalists chosen through open ratings will present their work at the Global Philanthropy Forum on Borderless Giving in March, where three winners will share $100,000 in project grants.

The Rachel Corrie Rebuilding Campaign, a project of The Rebuilding Alliance, starts by building for the Nasrallahs, the family that Rachel Corrie stood to safeguard when she was killed by the Caterpillar D9R bulldozer sent to demolish their home.

Rachel's parents, Cindy and Craig Corrie, are on the board of directors of The Rebuilding Alliance. Cindy said of this Campaign, "We are rebuilding for this family to bring attention to the human tragedy that the Israeli occupation has caused in Gaza and to challenge it. We must keep rebuilding in Gaza to bring light to this place and to say 'no' to the outrageous assault on human rights that continues there -- conducted by the Israeli government and supported by U.S. tax dollars"

In case people don't know who Rachel Corrie was, she was a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement in Israel and Palestine who was killed by an Israeli Defence Forces bulldozer in Gaza - a bulldozer supplied through American money and built by the Caterpillar corporation. She was 23 when she died.

She was basically an indie kid from Olympia, Washington state, who became involved in global solidarity movements and decided to do what she could for justice in Israel and Palestine. There was an official enquiry by the Israeli military which amounted to a whitewash, clearing the army of any wrongdoing.
