This Sunday, we bring you the second of our Anseo sessions, with live sets from two of the Alphabet Set roster, Thalamus and Fairlights. They're both launching releases on the night, and EP from the former and a full album from the latter.

Read onward, O ye interested...

THALAMUS

John Mahon, AKA Thalamus, cofounder of the Alphabet Set musical collective/label, (finally) releases his debut EP, Theta Bear, as part of the ABCNET series of free web releases on http://www.alphabetset.net, on March 3rd. The release consists of tracks made from various electronically-processed instruments and found sounds.

John's current live set incorporates trumpet, flute and various electronics, but rather than go for a laid-back mood, his music is a bit more beat-driven and warmly melodic, a sound he describes as kind of "mid-'90s technoey".

FAIRLIGHTS
Enda Bates is a musician who sometimes plays as Fairlights. He's played Lazybird a few times before, as well as at the DEAF festival, the Printing House Festival of New Music, the Ballroom of Romance, the Mantua festival and Beaconsfield gallery. Other projects have included performing and doing recording work with The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock, Miriam Ingram, Somadrone and Daniel Figgis.

The new album by Fairlights is a distinctive blend of ambient guitar drones, noise textures, and electronic swells. Quarterworks was written and recorded over the course of 2006 and carries on from the more electronic material on the 2005 debut album, Scraps.

UPCOMING LAZYBIRD EVENTS
April 7th, Clarke Tower, Ballymun: TBA
June 1st, Boom Boom Room: Jack Rose

And just like every Sunday, our webcast Radio-Inactivity will be delivering your weekly dose of alpha, beta and gamma particles. Your host this week from 6pm 'til 7:30pm will be the lovely Mossy. Tune in, turn up and drone on.

It's pretty nice for that type of music, all right. (Needs more stools, though.) We'll probably be doing another gig there pretty soon.

Thanks to everyone who came down to this, and to John & Enda for playing.

Yeah, good stuff alright. Good turn out too.

I like Anseo too, but as Photon said, it suits that sort of music. I dunno how a rock beand would work in that setting.
If anyone wants to give it a go, let us know.
