My sister is expecting a baby in November and wants me to make her a mini-disc to listen to while she is in labour. I realise that this is rather bizarre, but a nurse recommended it. Just wondering what to put on it, she wants a mellow one, rather that one with a lot of screaming but also something she can focus on (a repetitive beat or something). This could prove quite challenging!

She has suggested these

1. Lamb: Gorecki
2. Arvo Part: Spiegel im Spiegel.
3. Death in Vegas: Girls

Any other suggestions..?

In Niamh's labour bag we had Neu! 75, some dub reggae and the Amélie soundtrack - the emergency cesarean meant it all went unlistened-to, so I can't comment on its effectiveness

The Amelie soundtrack is lovely and amazing :)
I watched that film for about the 15th time last Saturday.

The Amélie soundtrack

I wish that I could employ someone to follow me around at all times with a ghetto blaster (or, ideally, a gramophone) playing the Amelie soundtrack.

Then, even when I'm waiting for a bus on Abbey St or toddling around Ranelagh in the rain, I'd feel like I was really skipping around the Jardins de Luxembourg in a beret.

We would have to establish some ground rules though. Bed and bathrooms would be strictly off limits.

PS Goodbye Lenin is also vg. But then, I imagine even Yann Tiersen's burps are dreamy and evocative.
