RTE using Explosions in the Sky for Hurling Ads (1 Viewer)

I really like explosions... and I really like hurling so its a win-win situation for me. Noticed over the years that RTE sometimes put some rather cool music on their own promo ads.

It makes me feel really old when they use music I like on ads.

They used Fugazi's Waiting Room on an ad for Law And Order SVU once and *cough* someone *cough* submitted the news to Punknews.org (who for some reason reffered to RTE as "NBC Ireland") which resulted in Fugazi "taking action" against RTE.

my buddy hates it when stuff he likes is used in RTÉ ads. haha! his reactions are hilarious! they've used cornelius, flaming lips and fout tet, amongst others, in the past too..

I thought there was going to be a murder when friends used a bit of pavement song in one episode. lordy!

that explosions/hurling ad is actually a nicely edited piece of work. that saturated colour vibe they keep insisting on using is abominable though. looks so bad.. look at any jerry bruckheimer produced dog turd for evidence of the inspiration!

I know people who swear blind that Interpol recorded their first album off the money they got for one of they songs being used on friends. Most of these people own S Club albums.

I dunno, I see irish ads and documentaries and I wish they'd use irish music in them. They never do. There's so much suitable stuff around but they must not even take it into consideration.

speaking of music in ads, is it true that copyright can expire on songs leaving them fair game for use in ads?

I assume T-Rex and Nina Simones' estates aren't seeing any profit from all their music that is being used to hawk things lately?(And every ska band ever should be rolling in roylalties by now too)

Sixty years after someone dies, if i'm not mistaken. But i think someone can just claim a song then, which is how you've to pay a few grand to sing Happy Birthday on the telly.

I could be completely wrong though.

Aye, the gig was in Hughes...went well...got a good crowd in who didn't mind us playing nice and loud...tis a cool place to play, very intimate...filthy rumours abound that Hughes has been sold and will be turned into a bank before christmas....shame, cause its one of the few decent places in Mullingar for chat and music.

Is the Stables dead or alive then? Last time I was there it was horrid, really grotty and shoddily run - we stolled in without paying, no one said anything - bad sound, bad lights and an unusually large gathering of psycho's in the front bar and absolutely no one at the gig. There was more people smoking in the toilets than there was at the gig. An awful night in a place that used to be worth making the trip into Westmeath for.

Strange about the other place being turned into a bank. I thought banks usually turned into pubs as opposed to the other way round.
