U:MACK PRESENT
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE SOUL COLLECTIVE (JAPAN)
Featuring
TSURUBAMI
PARDONS
KAWABATA MAKOTO
FRIDAY 30 MAY. THE VILLAGE, WEXFORD STREET
TICKETS E14 FROM ROAD RECORDS

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE UK & IRELAND : 'the acid mothers temple soul collective tour 2003'

Featuring live sets from three collective acts : TSURUBAMI + PARDONS + MAKOTO KAWABATA (SOLO)

As ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO UFO take a year long rest from touring (boo!) the Japanese one's are gathering together three of the collectives units to come over and fry our brains anyway. This is the first time any of them have toured outside of Japan and it promises to be a special look at the other tentacles of the acid mothers monster. The three touring acts will be (from headliner down) :

TSURUBAMI - the first thing to get out the way is the name. it is pronounced without the 'T', so it comes out as SUE-ROO-BARMY. Tsurubami are a completely improvised trio consisting of female drummer Emi Nobuko and ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE duo Higashi Hiroshi (Bass) and Makoto Kawabata (Guitar). They release their third album proper 'Tsukuyomi Ni' via UK label Riot Season on May 26th to coincide with the tour. All the music Tsurubami play is completely improvised, and not over-dubbed. The sounds fall through different styles of head splitting walls of sonic noise, quiet introspective lulls and freeform freakouts. It's less coherent than some of the AMT live sound and is definitely leaning more towards the avant-garde weird stuff that is a huge part of the AMT recorded output. A band much loved by the AMT nuts who seek out their hard to find releases at every oputunity. Heavier than AMT and a perfect end to the evening

PARDONS - Pardons is a 'cosmic synth' duo featuring ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE frontline synth siblings Cotton Casino & Higashi Hiroshi. Another theory is that the group actually consists of Pardon Dos and Pardon Uno who bear a close resemblance to Cotton and Higashi. Pardon Dos's vocals swirl through cosmic synth sounds, backwards guitar and looped drones. While the Pardons sound may be best termed mood cosmic music, it is totally different from other avant-garde electronic music or mood music played on moogs. The band have released one limited edition album and are currently working on the follow up. There is nothing much else to say about this crew as they are shrouded in mystery and you just cannot get inside their heads

MAKOTO KAWABATA - All round guitar-god and corkscrew haired speed guru. Makoto is pretty much the mainman of the whole AMT universe. When he's not busy blowing speakers with AMT, MAINLINER, TSURUBAMI etc he can be found making the most beautiful tranquil solo works known to man. He doesn't always need massive volume to get his point across and this solo tour will show a whole new side to his bow. Stay seated for this one, the man himself said ...

"Music, for me, is neither something that I create, nor a form of self-_expression. All kinds of sounds exist everywhere around us, and my performances solely consist of picking up these sounds, like a radio tuner, and playing them so that people can hear them. However, maybe because my reception is somewhat off, I am unable to perfectly reproduce these sounds. That is why I spend my days rehearsing. Where do these sounds come from? Who is sending them out? That is not something for me to know, and neither is there any way that I could find out. I simply believe that they come from the 'cosmos'. (Maybe other people would call God the source). Since I was a small child I have been prone to hearing ringing sounds in my ears and other sound phantasms. At the time, I believed that these were messages aimed directly at me from a UFO, and so I would gaze up at the sky. But once I started playing music myself, I came to feel that these noises were a kind of pure sound. And I promised myself that one day I would be able to play those sounds myself. It is only recently that I have begun to feel that I have been able to come close to reproducing these sounds in my solo guitar work"

if anyone needs an email interview with Makoto please let me know ASAP. a select number of TSURUBAMI promo's will be available for local press reviews / gig previews. please forward me any addresses and i'll send them out

as you can no doubt imagine. there are no proper pictures available as they just aren't that together. i have attached one jpeg of Tsurubami here if its any use. if you go to the AMT website www.acidmothers.com you will find links to all units within the collective and find pics to download
