was looking at tv's lately and noticed a few come with built in dvb-t tuners.

is it possible to run your ntl cable straight into the back of the tv then or is this dvb-t only an offcast of tv's made for the uk freeview market?

any recommendations of sites to buy a tv online? any things i should watch out for? samsung seem to do a nice tv or two.

thanks.

DVB-T is for terrestrial freeview broadcasts, so won't work with NTL's cable system (which is encrypted anyway).

It'll only work if you live in an area where you can pick up UK / NI broadcasts, since here in the Free State we'll be using the far superior mpeg4 standard. It's so superior you can't even buy a TV with a built in mpeg4 tuner yet... if ever.

And Samsung do indeed have nice tellyboxes. I got mine from directtvs.co.uk

thanks pete.

ha i didnt realise we were going mpeg4 digital. we must have gotten the format cheap when we tried to go to market and exchange that cow for cash but got magic beans instead.

ireland - where all good obsolete/second hand/outdated digital formats go to die (at a greatly inflated price)

We got a Sony one at home, but as Pete said it's pointless unless you live along the border.
