since upgrading to snow leopard (other wise known as OS emperors-new-clothes) I'm constantly getting a stupid fucking question mark over a quicktime logo on certain video content from certain sites.

I've updated Perian and installed flip4mac and it seemed to go away for a while..

Now its acting up again and both Perian & flip4mac have been updated to their latest versions.

Google keeps throwing up subjects from 2005 etc instead of something recent.

The most recent is dec 09 suggesting to upgrade Perian & install flip4mac as a solution.

I wasn't just making a statement there. After 12 views I'd better add; "Has anyone any advice/suggestions?"

mine was grand till i read this thread. refresh seems to work about half the time. this probably has something to do with ipads and apple profiting furiously over video in some form.

this may have no relevance to this problem, but it may be useful to someone

i had various problems and performance issues after upgrading to snow leopard.
backed everything up with time machine, wiped the drive and did a clean install, then remigrated all my apps and data from the TM backup with migration assistant. easy peasy but took a few hours. definite performance improvement, booting much faster, much less beachballs etc., no issues so far.

to continue on the unrelated to topic theme, mine just told my interface to fuck off and I'm completely fucked.

one other thing i remembered - when you install/upgrade to snow leopard, there is a screen where you can select a few components to add/remove from the installation, eg. language files you don't need etc.
there was an option there for some old version of quicktime, and i think it said you might need it to play some older video formats. i checked it to install it, i think it might have been unchecked by defaul

Thanks Mr Mock.

Dear Apple,

I could do all that shit suggested in your thread and waste and hour, possibly an hour and a half of my life just so I can look at certain web video content using a codec you INVENTED or I could click on the little apple logo on my screen and select software update like I do with everything else.

Pull the finger out lads.

Love
The Ian
