This month in Slick DJ Magazine, we'll be keeping the main focus at home, with Antrim, Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kildare, Kilkenny, Limerick and Wicklow all featured somehow. Festival season is in full swing; both Techfest and the Sibín festival received great reports for their music and set up. Planet Love and the Life Festival are next on the cards and we've caught up with Ferry Corsten, Bryan Kearney and Mixmaster Morris before they hit the stage. Former Mixmag features editor Gavin Herlihy, originally from Wicklow but now residing in Berlin, fills us in on his move from journalism to full time DJ/Producer. For fans of techno, be it minimal or full on, we've got Joris Voorn, DJ Bone, Mark Broom and John Selway. These four have either played Ireland in recent times (Bone, Broom) or are set to play this summer (Voorn, Selway).
Limerick's ever vibrant scene gets a good look in this issue with Ross O Lochlainn providing a feature on their clubs, DJ's and producers. Also from Limerick, prank phone call legends (and now rap comedy stars) the Rubber Bandits have a chat with us about their anonymity among other things. Spin 1038's Arveene speaks to us about Clampdown's relocation to Andrews Lane Theatre and also about his extensive runner collection, while Mark O Sullivan brings us up to speed on his new album and his relationship with the Dahlback cousins. Fans of original electro from the early 80's, we've got a treat inside; Greg Wilson – the first DJ to appear on TV and show the UK and Ireland how it's done (way back in '83) – tells us of his 20+ year absence and what he's at right now.
With Mr. Scruff set to play the Button Factory soon, we also catch up with him and the 6 piece German nu jazz band Jazzanova in time for their Southport Weekender mix CD's release. Our club focus this month moves back home (after last months feature on Glasgow's Sub Club), both on opposite ends of the country – Kilkenny's Zoo Club and Antrim's Vibe. Wrapping thing up, Carlow lads TR-One introduce themselves to our nation and speak to us about their love for all things acid! 303 is the magic number! All this and the usual single and album reviews for all genres, recommended clubbing, clubbing news and after hours banter.
