BLACK SABBATH Guitarist's Limited-Edition GIBSON To Go On Display In Dublin - Nov. 22, 2006

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has lent one of his guitars to the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin for a new exhibition called "RockChic: The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar 1931-2006". The exhibition will feature more than 100 legendary, vintage, rare and customized guitars, including instruments played by Jimi Hendrix, Phil Lynott, Rory Gallagher, Keith Richards, Bo Diddley, Carlos Santana and Van Morrison. Also featured will be new customized guitars from the likes of Patrick Cox, Christopher Bailey, David LaChapelle, Diane von Furstenburg and legendary Irish broadcaster Dave Fanning. These guitars will form part of a charity auction once the exhibition is complete. The guitar on loan from Tony is one of his black limited-edition Gibson Custom Shop SGs, as played on BLACK SABBATH tours and recordings since 2001. "RockChic" runs at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin from November 23, 2006 to January 21, 2007. Admission is free. For opening hours and general information visit www.museum.ie. The exhibition is due to move to London from the end of January; more information on this when details are confirmed.

Went down for a look today, kinda underwhelming, some nice guitars for sure but some of the custom ones were horrible.

Loads of strats with shit pictures drawn on them.
Dave Fanning les paul is a joke..waste of a nice guitar.

Tony Iommi's SG,one of Philos basses and Rory Gallaghers guitar, pretty cool.

Niall Stokes owns some amazing guitars which is something I learned today.

Im gonna back when its quiet,it was packed full of kids with camera phones today so you couldnt move left or right without being in someones picture.

I'm most likely on for monday afternoon if you wannna go again then? I'll take a spin round the record shops before/after most likely.

on the subject of guitars that belonged to rock'n'rollers...
there was a really nice sg for sale in that 'instrumental' shop on the quays in dublin that used to belong to henry mccullough (eire apparent/sweeney's men/grease band/wings etc.) just noticed that he's on 'would you believe' (??!!) on rte1 tomorrow night...

oh yeah? What time is that on at?

I'll give you a bell Gary.

what's 'would you believe?

the guitar thing was alright
a bit random - too many guitars without info packed together

funniest: some little kid sticking his hand under the glass casing of phil's bass and touching it - "i'll never wash this hand again"...although philo is hardly synonymous with ibanez basses

It's rarely the famous guitar at these things,it's usually one that was used in one video or something. Still,it'll probaby be significantly better guitar porn than any of the shops in dublin can provide.

Ugly guitars behind plastic. The place was rammed today. Might be alright with hardly anyone there. Sort of pointless exhibition.

I give the guitar exhibition a : "meh"

Balls,I forgot about this until it was 10 minutes in. Was the first bit any good? The rest was no use.

The bit I saw was too short to be any good. I don't imagine the rest was any good either. Can't imagine there was much talk about his music before Wings.

yeah, i'd imagine it was rubbish. i think there's some rte footage of sweeney's men when he was with them. i thought they might've showed that. i'd say the most they would've shown would be the grease band at woodstock or something...
