Drum Overhead Mic (2 Viewers)

I need to get 2 mics for drum overheads. I'd like it to a pretty good quality. Twould be a bonus if they were also good for vocals & acoustic guitar, but not essential.

Something like a AT-4033 would ideal, but they are €349 each, and my budget is €400-€450 in total.

I've been browsing around and these look like the contenders...

ACG C3000 €198 each
SE 2200A €179 each
CAD EQUITEK e100
AT2020 €99 each
RODE NT5 €279 for matched pair
OKTAVA MK 012-01 €299 for matched pair


Anyone got any experience with these?
Or maybe recommend another good 'un in my price range?

well of all those youve listed i only really have experience with the SE 2200a and i can tell you its not good as overheads but its amazing with acoustic, vox, string instruments, brass etc..

I couldn't even afford to record in mono with those!

I've got the Oktavas and a singleton SE2200a if you want to borrow them Beanman.

The NT5s I like on acoustic, they're good and bright.
That will most likely translate pretty well to overheads.

Check out KEL HM-1.. I keep hearing good shit about them.
Avernus picked one up the other week, so I'm hoping to give his one a blast soon.

Cheers for the offer Pete, most of the forums are bigging up the Oktavas, so at their price I'm veering towards those at the moment...will do some more digging...

I've used AKG C1000s on overheads before.... they did the job.... I would only imagine the C3000s would be better.

I've likewise heard friend of a friend reports on the octavas, if you do get them report back on what they're like.

Did you get the Hypercardioid and omni capsules with your MK-012?

I was thinking bout getting the matched pair with just the cardioid capsule. It will mainly be for drum overheads and acoustic guitars so I figure the cardioid will be good enough if I point it in the right direction.

Its not like I'm gonna be recording a choir or anything that would warrant an omni.

i have a pair of rode nt5s and they are excellent for overheads and acoustic guitar, never tried them for vox though
