been interested in checking this out for some time now. twas banned on it's release in 1994 but then passed with no cuts in 2001, which naturally arouses my interest.

a lot of conflicting reviews on imdb.com though, seems to really divide people

does anyone know if it's worth watching?

Wrong end of the stick?

I've read way more bad reviews than good. Most people reckon it's just really boring.

dont think i'll bother getting this afterall

cover says its the "british answer to man bites dog"

my hole

i've been mildly interested in seeing that film, and checked out the imdb reviews. sounds like its more of this type of self-consciously "extreme" cinema which is in fact fairly tedious (though i must withhold judgement before i see it myself). dont know how interested i am in it, to be honest, there's another film called "august underground: mordum" which is meant to be very shocking, extreme, hard-to-take etc etc. but really, unless its got some sort of depth (like noe's work, for instance) i really cant gather much enthusiasm or interest in such things.

i was stung by Baise Moi as well... i cant believe i actually bought that piece of crap. i've learned never to trust people when they say "if you like this, why not try this..."

i have august underground's mordum on DVD. Its ok, i guess it's shocking if you're easily disturbed. lots of shouting, swearing, occasional gore.... not a bad way to kill 75 mins. if you liked the guinea pig movies then you'll prob like it.

they made a movie before that which was just called "august underground", but that was a pile of shit.

last i heard the makers of Mordum were doing the make up effects on "Murder Set Pieces"

The philosophy of "Boy Meets Girl" is sickening too, a mix of the Marquis de Sade with a form of ultra feminism that any decent human being should find repellent. Brady mixes things up by switching perspectives frequently, from what the video camera in the torture chamber is showing back to film showing the whole room. Perhaps a not too subtle rumination on the public's love for violence shown in the media? Who knows, but I suspect someone like Aileen Wuornos would have loved this film.

aye, this is what makes me not want to check it out. i have no problem with nihilistic or even anti-human and outright negative work, but for one thing, de sade is not understood very well. most seem to place the emphasis on the acts of a grand "sadist" rather than on the philosophy and wit, overlooking completely the great sensitivity to both perpetrator and victim in de sade's work. for another, hastily adding a gloss of "feminism" to such material (in some weak attempt to "raise questions" or "challenge preconceptions" - neither of which are worthy persuits in such played-out and cliched-ridden genres) is a tiresome and worthless cop-out. "baise moi", to take that example once again, is deeply offensive most of all (to both men and women) since it slaps a pseudo and overstated "feminist" stance over what is effectively artless, exploitative pornography (in the worst senses of the term).

a terribly played out topic also. the problem with it is the same as the problem with combining necrophilia, bestiality and S&M: its like beating a dead horse.
