SATURDAY 10TH NOVEMBER
POGO LIVE
Backlash Live Present...
FRIENDLY FIRES (Moshi Moshi)
+ Neon Love
3 man band Friendly Fires stop over amid a hectic tour schedule for their Irish debut at Backlash Live next Saturday night. Taking in dates across the UK, aswell as Amsterdam and Razzmatazz in Barcelona, the Nottingham born group are a band in demand at present.
Recently signed to the Moshi Moshi label (along with fellow Backlash favourites Lo-Fi Fnk), Friendly Fires have an accessible sound that coveres punk, funk, indie and dance. A little bit of a throwback to the 1980's, NME recently named them amongst "the top three indie bands in the UK".
Their new single "Paris" is out next month, in the meantime expect an upfront, energetic performance down Backlash Castle next weekend; “I hate it when you see a band and the whole thing seems to be about the band being this spectacle raised above others, with people gazing up at them,” says guitarist Ed Gibson. “When people dance, it’s like everyone’s in it together. It’s more equal.”
While Friendly Fires have been busy, so have we, Backlash Live has seen plenty of action in the last few weeks. James Murphy's curfew-defying funk & disco set last month was more than matched by a top notch show from Manchester's The Whip last Saturday, and with the Ting Tings and Alloy Mental lined up for the rest of the year Backlash Live has plonked itself right back on the map

Backlash Live Present...
TING TINGS
+ Neon Love
Best known up to this year for their wild house parties rather than their global musical appeal, Kate White and Jules De Martino, aka the Ting Tings, have been causing a bit of a stir cross channel. Hailing from Salford in Machester (the same area as fellow Backlash Live-ees The Whip), 2007 has been quite a year for the two piece band.
Its no exaggeration to say that what began as simply playing somgs to mates in houses across the North West of England has become one of the most in demand bands in the UK.
"We've had people like Rick Rubin (big league American producer of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash) emailing about us. There's been bosses of major record companies who've come down to the house parties", says Jules.
"It's been mental. Me and Katie have been literally sprinting out of the mill as soon as we've finished playing. It can get a bit too intense all these music business people trying to get a piece of you."
Their music takes inspiration from many places, their sound a broad variety of disco / punk / indie / pop. They're currently playing three dates in California and one in New York, before they touchdown to play Backlash Live on November 24th. And we just found out Kate White only learned to play guitar in February of this year
She sums it up nicely by adding: "This has been one of the happiest periods in my life. Me and Jules were driving home the other night, and we went through about four sets of traffic lights, and everyone was on green. It sums up this year so far for us."
Support comes from the Neon Love gang dropping the indie-pop hits before & after. Also on the nite over the way in POGO Pub, special guest Bonde Do Role's DJ Gorky will be poppin it on the 1s n 2s alongside Nic James for a proper favela funk n party beats shakedown...
