Sunday Business Post said:Similar subjects have appeared in many works over the decades, but the painting that truly speaks of our age is an interior of Rick’s Cafe.
Wanting to make a comment on the modern-day urban environment, Roche chose his friend Beano Skint, the bass player with Dublin punk band Blood Or Whiskey. The presence of a Polish waitress, meanwhile, is another sign of the times.
About to tuck into a burger and chips, Skint is dressed in the fashion of his milieu - punk hair, studded leather jacket, skull rings and bracelets.
Punk musicians are seldom rendered in oils, and thus rarely feature on the cover of a fine art auction house catalogue.
Skint’s expression gives little away, but I’m reliably informed that he is delighted.
