Miaou

Miaou were formed in 1999 by Tatsuki Hamasaki and sisters Mayumi and Hiromi Hasegawa.

Their debut album, 'Happiness' (Noon records, 2003), was quickly followed by a tour with Australia's Art Of Fighting. Their 2005 release, 'Make These Things Alright' saw Miaou develop their sound into an even more tuneful, dreamy version of instrumental rock.

That same year saw a tour with Canada's Below The Sea, with whom the band also collaborated with to record a split e.p., released on Preco Records, the label of Tokyo music store LINUS RECORDS.

2006 proved to be another busy and exciting year. Things started off with the inclusion of 'Grasslands' on the Where Are My Records compilation cd, "Je T'aime", before the band headed into the studio to record probably their most distinctive, beautiful and accomplished material to date with the painted e.p. (Thomason Sounds). The e.p. was once again recorded by toe's Takaaki Mino, who has produced all of their material to date.

The release of the painted e.p. was followed by a Japan tour with Thomason Sounds label mates Tracer AMC from Northern Ireland, as well as distributing their music through north america with Darla Records.
2009 saw the release of their new album "All around us" and much touring. Miaou are in Europe to play the excellent Oscillations festival in Belfast and we're lucky enough to get them to the Ballroom of Romance.

The Kites

The Kites are Gavin Cowley (Guitar, Keys, Vocals), Daithí Ó hÉignigh (Guitar, Drums, Vocals), J.Bassetti (Bass) and Aidan O’Donovan (Drums, Percussion).

Gavin comes from the 2-piece 'Boxes’ who have been described... “Unlike a lot of acts that experiment with odd time signatures and complex song structures, Boxes inject as much heart as head into their work. They’re still man-machines, but they play with feeling.” - The Daily Page (USA).

Daithí previously played with ‘Giraffe Running’ (“...rich in idiosyncratic imagination, oddly charming dischordance and strangely realised beauty." – Jim Carroll, The Irish Times) and ‘Daemien Frost’ (“...purveyors of a unique brand of confusing and skittish, skronkified, math rock angularity… think of a twisted and warped Battles, Don Caballero, Gooloo or Othrelm.” Kevin Stewart-Panko, Terrorizer).

J.Bassetti played with ‘Jackbeast’ (An inspirational post-punk band from Dublin circa 1990’s) and the controversial Electro outfit ‘Burning Love Jumpsuit’ who specialised in a subtle form of disco-infused media terrorism. They also featured on John Peel’s ‘Festive 50’ in 2002.

Aidan O’Donovan is an unknown entity at this point.

If you’re familiar with the band members’ previous outings, you might be at a stretch to imagine what The Kites sound like. Time has passed, sights have been seen, life has been lived and lessons have been learned. These ‘man-machine’ terrorists have taken stock… Noise has been traded for subtle wordplay and an uncanny knack for transporting the listener to forgotten times and places. The Kites sing about humans, their spirits and conditions and dress their words in old-fashioned tempos and disturbing pianos. All this said, old habits are hard to break… There’s no guarantee that their old mistress, funky polyrhythmic rock ‘n’ roll, will not insist on helping them lay waste to this new-found insight.

Lie Ins

Lie Ins are Michael (songs, guitars), Kid Lovebeach (drums) and F-Man (4-track, tape hiss). Lie Ins were formed because of a wedding, for which a song had been promised as a wedding present. This promise was forgotten about until two weeks before the wedding. All Lie Ins songs are recorded on 4-track. Songs are not heard by the band until the day they're recorded. Lie Ins songs are recorded in less than three hours. It should be pointed out, however, that this all applies to only one song, since that's all Lie Ins have (so far). But it is, nonetheless, the Lie Ins modus operandi. Lie Ins wear pyjamas, bath robes, white war paint and crowns. There is reasoning behind this.
