I'm going to buy a record player...................

I suspect a phono preamp may be essential the amp should read an electronic signal and not the needle directly. What do you think of this stuff @moose ? LESAHiFi Since you know about electronics I haven't a clue but the kits mostly just need a box to be put into ? You needn't bother answer if...

The thing about tubes also is that they need to be replaced so every so often you'd have to fork out new ones which would put me off. I'd say decent headphones and some sort of dap or walkman even a smartphone is probably a cheap way to get good quality audio certainly cheeper than a stereo for...

I'm not sure if that would work out depends perhaps on how much the Sonos can be used as an amp ? But surely a preamp is intended to connect to some sort of amp I don't use one myself the inbuilt one in my amp is not to bad so...

I would probably try one of those dinky Chinese tube preamps for the craic. These are usually even just for headphones but some are phono pre amps too. I am sure there are cheeper options though. Otherwise I haven't a bog really.

I'd like to get a tube amp actually and see what they are like if I can find something reasonable from China. I should try to get new speakers first though.

I'm going to buy a record player...................

Every thing I have is second hand from adverts. An amp for 20 quid speakers which are actually for a car in some old speaker box's and a Stanton turntable which is an American dj type table it weighs a ton and will last forever I think. Of course I'd like to change most of that which I might try...

Yeah actually it might not be grounded the wire from the amp to the speakers are two separate bits that are twisted and stuck together with some cello tape. One part of it is originally for connecting a camera to a tv. I keep putting off getting a proper cable for some reason.

I had a look at your speakers on Amazon and they have these banana plugs listed as "frequently bought together" Which I would think might be a reliable recommendation there is ton of comments on there as well.

Saw that they have some Stanton turntables in Tower yesterday starting at about 250 Stanton STR8.150 - DJ Equipment, DJ Gear, Phono Cartridges & Needles, DJ Mixer, DJ Turntables, Headphones, CD Players I think the shop in the basement where road records used to be had some cheapish Technics...

I'm going to buy a record player...................

They will have a different design and be built out of different materials and parts. Expensive record player will try to be very precise and reduce any kind noise which is maybe not what you want! Mine was expensive and the main reason I bought it was because I didn't want one that would break...

Yeah most stuff is very standard and compatible except what @Cornu Ammonis said there need's to be a specific "phono" input for record players allot of them would have that though especially older amps
