Bonnie Prince Billy. Vicar Street January 31 2012

One of my favourite gigs by any performer in years, I reckon. He always delivers but there was something special in the air in Vicar St last night - despite 'Shouty Man' having his shpake on more than one occasion. Loved the mic-free Teach Me To Bear You.

    Headphone Recommendations

Go for the Sennheiser px100 or px200 ones. Don't know if they're good for jogging but they're grand for a bike when you're hammered. And the sound is excellent.

    the peak of journalistic endeavor

I write a bit for Drop-D and wholly understand people's problems with some/alot of the writing. I'm certainly not interested in engaging in all the crap that goes on from the editorial side and the article comment side of things - I just do my stuff and that's usually that. As long as people...

    Fucked Up

Hardcore is hardcore and that's what we got. Naked fat dudes are the first thing i look for in a band. If you haven't got a fat naked dude fronting your band then I won't be there. Live, fucked up just deliver pure hardcore but on record it's way more experimental than any other punk band I've...

    Music magazines

Wire can be tough going but looks amazing. State quickly became pedestrian enough (though the actual size of the magazine is perfect for some reason...it's smaller than all the others) and Plan B is probably the best for a bit of edge and consistency. Mojo, Uncut and the rest....blarrrrghhhh...
