Yeah, I agree. Although, I liked the character from the Bone Clocks that re-appeared here. I'd like to see him write a straight-ish novel again, like Black Swan Green.

Hottish on the heels of The Bone Clocks - this was a neater, snappier read, with a creepy yet oddly peaceful mood.

The new Kevin Barry novel is fantastic. Highly entertaining so far - pretty much all dialogue too.

That Evie Wyld was great - very tense, uneasy reading, beautifully written. Alternate chapters too, which is a style I really like.

Shirley's is quite short, so I'll be tucking into this next

It is difficult to separate the two - as it is with music, movies etc. I always remember our English teacher saying we could be "critical but not cynical". One of the lads memorably replied - "that's bollocks sir". How we laughed... including the teacher.
