getting back to this - none of you pricks happen to have a deore DX rear derailleur gathering dust, do you? i replaced the cassette and chain; the chain was well worn so i replaced the cassette too. minor issue was that the rear hub is not original, it's an 8 speed; so i had to play with some...

the way car safety has been going (though this effect has levelled off a lot, i suspect), it's now *more* dangerous to hit another car in your say 20 year old car than when it was new. because if you hit a newer car, it'll carve its way much further into your car than another 20 year old car would.

yeah, i've seen videos that the benefits are not quite as people claim. one of the claims is that you are able to pull up on the upstroke, which you can't do on 'normal' pedals and you get to use some extra muscles doing so. i'm just so used to clip'less' pedals that normal ones feel a bit strange.

from what i've seen, how difficult hills are is calculated by raising the slope by a factor of 2.5. e.g. doubling the slope increases difficulty by a factor of more than 5.

One thing you learn while cycling is that it's often safest to position yourself so as you 'deliberately' block cars. Usually referred to as taking primary position or taking the lane. If you cycle in the gutter, motorists will pass you with no regard for you. If you take primary position, you...
