Melting Pot Presents:

SUPERMODEL TWINS
+ Travega

Thursday June 19th @ The Infirmary

Doors 9-11.30pm Adm: €5

Supermodel Twins strut their stylish stuff at The Infirmary on Thursday June 26, 2008.

LIMERICK band Supermodel Twins who have been hailed as “one of the most thrilling new Irish acts of 2008” will take to the stage at The Infirmary on Thursday June 26. The four-piece have an unerring, breezy power-pop sensibility that suggests bronzed Californian surfer dudes rather than pasty-faced dwellers of the grey and dreary backstreets of Frank McCourt’s ‘Angela’s Ashes’.

Supermodel Twins are purveyors of perfect three-minute pop songs that combine intelligent lyrics about love, lust and loneliness with infectious melodies, sinful harmonies and dramatic guitar-crescendos delivered in a Beatles-style swagger. Influenced by the likes of Weezer, Nada Surf and Jimmy Eat World, Supermodel Twins’ sound brims with moments of wry genius that owes more to the genuine pop masterworks of The Beach Boys and Burt Bacharach than its modern day imitators.

The Limerick outfit have been busy perfecting their impeccably produced power-pop in recent months and just recorded their debut single ‘Footprints’ at Grouse Lodge Studios – a delectable slice of mesmerising musical brilliance which was released on May 2, 2008, to critical acclaim.

Having worked together for four years through different projects and under different guises, Supermodel Twins aim is to bring their fresh, innovative sing-along power-pop to the masses!

Support from Travega

Travega began to form in January 2004. As a quartet the band won the Xlantic Records Battle of the bands in "Eamon Dorans" making the pages of the "Star" newspaper with their victory. A later gig at "Whelans" in Dublin marked the first of many sell-out gigs for the band and paved the way for their musical development.

Travega’s recording debut came in the summer of 2005 as a 3 track E.P. produced by singer songwriter Declan O’Rourke and recorded by Robbie Sexton of "Blink". Sixteen months later, with a number of sell-out performances in Dublin including Whelans, The Village and Crawdaddy, Travega, now a sextet, released their debut single, "The People", in Ireland on 27th October 2006. The single entered the Irish charts at number 27 and remained there for a number of weeks. The promotion of the single was aided by live performances on Dublin’s 98FM, Spin 103.8FM, TG4, The City Channel, along with other regional radio stations around the counrty.

Following the debut release Travega embarked on an extensive Irish tour to further promote the single.

Hotpress Magazine had this to say about "The People":

Good Irish hard rock has been a bit hard to come by, but this is a very,
very promising debut from the Dublin six piece. The arrangement is
clever, and the extravagant keyboard flourishings are impressive. The
sound is a bit flat, more like a demo than a single – but studio time with
an established producer should sort that.
Phil Udell(Hotpress Magazine 2006)

Currently the band are preparing themselves for the release and promotion of their debut album which was recorded at The Farm & The Armoury Studios in Vancouver. Garth Richardson was the Producer and Ben Kaplan the Engineer. The lads and lady spent around ten weeks in Canada and then a week in New York with Josh Wilbur as it was being mixed.
