Right, forgot what a massive Low fan I used to be. I find my opinions on their albums are always in flux. Pretty much gave up after Drums & Gun.

So...

I Could Live in Hope - 8
Long Division - 8
The Curtain Hits the Cast - 7
Secret Name - 8
Christmas - 7
Things We Lost in the Fire - 9.5
Trust - 9
A Lifetime of Temporary Relief - 8
The Great Destroyer - 7
Drums & Guns - 4

So yeah, Zak Sally departs and a noticeable drop in quality is discerned.

They had refined their sound so much by the times Things We Lost in the Fire, it obviously revigorated them to break with Albini on Trust with a more ambitious set of songs. I think some of the early albums can occasionally suffer from an indulgence in droney guitars that can become very flat after a while. They are such fine songwriters, no need to waste vast chunks of songs on generic droney, shoegazey stuff. Although sometimes this worked.

I thought the boxset was neat, but I am including the dvd stuff in my rating.

Wait, I have listened to C'mon. Forgot about that.... Yeah, it's a good bit better than Drums & Guns but couldn't possibly rate it.

Kranky-related personal trivia: Accidentally singing along to Laser Beam in Portland, Oregon with Carl from Windy & Carl. "Jeez, I haven't heard this in years."

No Seventeen Seconds?

Also The Top WTF? I'd give that an 8, if not a 9! It's mad brilliance

The 1980 live LP One For The Road is excellent.

Did anyone see them in the RDS 1984?

The Monkees
The Monkees - 7
More Of The Monkees - 7

The Birds, The Bees and The Monkees - 9

The last two are from the mid 1980s and mid 1990s. No great shakes.

Did you ever hear that live album Hold that Tiger that was recorded around that time. It's deadly. Worth checking out if you can get your hands on it.
Is that the live album? Been meaning to pick it up for years, the tracklisting is amazing. Will definitely, cheers

Yea I can see why that would happen. But Troublemaker, The Greatest Man, Pork, Dreamin', Miss Sweeney, King.. all winners.
They put the Maladroit demos on their website at the time. At frist they were a bit disappointing but they grew on me a lot.

I know it's on Make Believe but I still have a real soft spot for We Are All On Drugs. I know everyone else hates it

Went to see Fall Out Boy a few years ago in the ambassador just because I lived around the corner from the place. I didn't really know that much about them at the time. They were good fun but we were at least 10 years older than every single other person in the room and they weren't serving alcohol. It just felt wrong. Like we'd gate crashed a junior cert disco.

From under the cork tree's a pretty fun album though. Haven't heard it in a few years
