INTERNAL AUTONOMY Discography double CD
As the strong British anarcho-punk scene of the early 80's fractured and disintegrate, many bands choose to follow the more commercially lucrative (and artistically bland) path into the metal scene. Meanwhile a few bands kept the experimental spirit of the CRASS / FLUX / POISON GIRLS alive while taking it in a more musically diverse — and dare we say more easily digestible — direction. Some of the bands like CHUMBA WAMBA and the SUGAR CUBES went on to huge commercial success, while other great bands like KARMA SUTRA and INTERNAL AUTOMY languished in relative obscurity.
This collection attempts to rectify the situation for at least one band by collecting together the complete works INTERNAL AUTONOMY, and band with a huge amount of amazing music that's almost impossible to find. Musically I.A. were an extension of the CRASS style of minimalist music sound, but built up with layers of sound (covering a gamut of sounds from 80's Goth to New Wave to Classical) really strong female vocals (except the double EP tracks) and excellent recording production.
Gathered on these two discs are almost the entire discography of INTERNAL AUTONOMY, from their incredible full length LP to their EPs to their obscure early demos—39 songs in all. You will also find INTERNAL AUTONOMY covering from POISON GIRLS and APOSTLES and four brand new recordings. This double CD comes packaged in very fancy double gatefold digi-pack sleeve and contains a booklet with lyrics and liner notes by Danny from Back2Front zine.
If you have not yet heard INTERNAL AUTONOMY be prepared of for a pure treat of post-CRASS anrcho-punk that runs contrary to the hardcore / crust movement that followed. This is totally political music with a sound that falls somewhere between early CHUMBA WAMBA, KARMA SUTRA and SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES.
