Once GTA made the shift from top-down to 3D, it was all over.

Also, the soundtrack to the original was the best.

That was all licenced music, wasn’t it? Original game had an original soundtrack made by the lads who made it (I think they did it as a nixer after hours?) and if you got sick of that, you could take the game out while playing and replace with a CD of your choice.
