You got your dark times and you got your happy times. We are somewhere in the middle. We write happy songs about not so happy things, with the intention of making the awful seem not so bad. If you feel that we have made the not so bad seem awful then we have failed, and we apologise.

In 2008, GPO set about turning the Irish indie scene into a brighter prospect Internationally after releasing their debut EP to great reviews, and featuring on US compilation 'Future Sounds'.

The band began touring destroying venues and eardrums in Ireland, the UK and Germany. Their tracks were heard by The Notwist producer, Mario Thaler, who later recorded tracks with the band at Dublin's Apollo Studios. Their October 3rd release 'Ballet Shoes' is a result of this meeting.

Heliopause

Heliopause are four beans from Cork and Kerry. Been messing around with instrumental rock and funk for 2 years playing with some great bands, djs and producers from the alternative undercurrent seeping into ireland. In April 2008, they released their self-titled debut EP. The album features some perfectly intricate post rock and math rock sounds with just the most subtle hints of jazzy rock thrown in ala tortoise or even karate. It is available in Plugd Records, Cork and Road Records Dublin.

Goldfish Syndrome

The future of the Irish music landscape looks in good hands with the appearance of Goldfish Syndrome, who enter the fray with an effortless mix of radio hooks, inspiring lyrics and international interest.

The band enter 2009 with a four track EP that has already turned heads in the US and France, while receiving pre-release airplay on Irish radio. Timewarp is set for release on Drive Records (Cyclefly, Hueman) and marks the coming of age of a band ready to make its mark both home and abroad.

Sound of Violence magazine in France says ‘we couldn’t dream of a better start for 2009’ while Los Angeles-based 272 Records have insisted that Timewarp’s opening track, ‘Where Have All The Good Times Gone’, leads the way on their new compilation ‘Riot on Sunset’.

The EP, mixed by German producer Larry Fricke (Sunchasers, Mako), is a taster of the band’s debut album, set for release later in 2009. Melodic rock without pretensions, this is music that bridges the gap between commercial hits and intelligent songwriting, and its appeal to music cultures as diverse as France and US displays an ability to entice listeners no matter where it is heard.

Timewarp is set for digital download release on February 10, before Goldfish Syndrome return to the studio to complete their much-anticipated debut. A soundtrack for the summer of 2009? It has all the ingredients . . .
