The cost of manufacturing and producing records is one of the factors that led to it's decline in the first place something which doesn't seem to have changed. I suppose at one time it actually was the only possible way to playback recorded music but the whole situation then changed with other new formats and even more so now in the age of the internet with everything much more immediately accessible online. I geuss cassettes and tape coging had a similar effect which were sometimes very lofi or poorly recorded. Bynils will always be around I think but may eventually become less commercial again.
