Sinkane is the project of Ahmed Gallab who cut his own teeth as a youngster in the punk DIY landscape of middle America, and then found himself touring far and wide as a member of Yeasayer, Caribou and Of Montreal to name just a few. Sinkane is a musician who blends krautrock, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop to create truly universal soul music.
He has emerged from it all as Sinkane, a project that identifies a renaissance within the space and spirit of the outposts of contemporary music. Sinkane’s ‘Mean Love’ rolls like an emotional, existential history of the artist. It was recorded at The Rumpus Room in Brooklyn, New York andco-produced with long-time Sinkane collaborator and childhood friend, Greg Lofaro. The restless creative drive of Ahmed Gallab these past few years has led to a true breakthrough moment for the artist, and this album is a true reward for time well spent.
