Medicinal whiskey indeed.
Also,I love her disappointment at the fact the story leaked considering her trumpeting of Garda leaks in the lead up to Christmas.

One pub hot whisky measure and she might get away with it. But this was home made so shes likely a goner unless she was visiting Cavan relatives.

i dont have much time for drink driving, but i'm really not looking forward to watching smirking gombeens using this as ammo to dodge dealing with womens rights.

She may not have been over the limit at all. Seems the story was leaked by Gardai before any charges were made, sounds like petty revenge to me.

Refusing to take the breathaliser on the spot sounds like she she knew that she might be in the shit.

Is there still that law saying that it's an offence to hamper a TD who on their way to the Dail, regardless of if it is in session or not? She could ahve used that excuse if so.

Apparently she didn't refuse to be breathalysed.

Independent TD Clare Daly has confirmed she was stopped by gardaí on suspicion of drink driving last night.
Ms Daly told RTÉ news that she accepted full responsibility for her actions.
She said she was in an area of south Dublin that she was unfamiliar with and took an illegal turn.
Ms Daly said that she was stopped by gardaí on foot of that and was breathalysed and then brought to Kilmainham Garda Station.

Independent TD Clare Daly has said she had a “hot whiskey” before being stopped by gardaí on suspicion of drink-driving after she performed an illegal turn on a road in Dublin last night.

The Dublin North deputy said she had been driving in an area of south Dublin she was unfamiliar with. She was pulled in by gardaí and breathalysed before being brought to Kilmainham garda station.

I don't have much time for Clare Daly but I think she's been wronged here a little. Firstly, the Gardaí have no business making public the fact that she was suspected of drink driving. Should only be brought to light if charges are laid. Secondly, I think her statement since this has emerged have been frank and honest. She has said that if she was over the limit it will be a huge mistake on her part. I can imagine other TDs/public figures who would claim to have had a sherry trifle and fob it off.
