This promises to be a very special night indeed. Doubles is one of the finer album releases anywhere this year.

4th November
8pm sharp with 15 minute interval
€12/10

With the release of critically acclaimed sophomore album Doubles earlier this summer, Cian Nugent has by common consent proved himself a master of sinewy textured guitar playing and immersive instrumentation on a par with avant-folk heroes John Fahey, Jim O’Rourke and Jack Rose.
For this special event in Project Arts Centre, Cian will perform a number of sets over the course of the evening starting with a solo performance. Following this he will be joined by acclaimed American folk guitarist Steve Gunn before completing the evening with his ensemble. In addition there will be a special solo set by Steve Gunn as well as a performance by the Lacey/Roche Duo.

Praise for Doubles --
"Nugent smartly focuses on developing a pair of immersive environments that are continuously compelling for more than 20 minutes at a time. He nails it.”
-- Grayson Currin, Pitchfork
"Nugent's already mastered dynamics tone and articulation. He introduces each new melody or change of emotional tenor at precisely the right moment to keep you on the edge with him, and his tunes are sturdy and lovely things [...] Mighty good."
-- Bill Meyer, The Wire
CIAN NUGENT
Cian Nugent is a guitar player and composer from Dublin, Ireland who combines personal passions, such as suburban/coastal blues, traditional musics, late 1960s & '70s singer-songwriters, jazz ambitions, 20th century composition and the Takoma school into a deeply personal style. His music boasts an orchestrated and fully instrumented sound that is playful and eerie at the same time.
In the past he has toured with people such as Jack Rose, Glenn Jones, Micah Blue Smaldone, Ben Reynolds, Nalle, The Family Elan, George Stavis, Jozef van Wissem, C Joynes, Peter Delaney, Thinguma*jigSaw and James Blackshaw throughout Europe and the United States.
Debut studio album Doubles came out in June 2011 on US label VHF
STEVE GUNN
Formerly one third of GHQ with Pete Nolan and Marcia Bassett, guitarist/songwriter Steve Gunn is the kind of musician who stays at home practicing while his more visible Brooklyn contemporaries are busy taking band photos and honing their online brands. Alongside folks like James Blackshaw, Charalambides, Tom Carter, and the late Jack Rose, he's spent the past few years quietly leading an underground guitar-folk revival centered around technical mastery, the ever-looming specter of John Fahey, and idiosyncratic amalgams of 20th century Americana, traditional British folk, psychedelic rock, and Indian raga.
