West Ham have opened talks with Roma about an unlikely move to bring Gabriel Batistuta to the club, according to newspaper reports.
Reports say the Hammers held talks with the Italian side on Tuesday about a possible loan move when January's transfer window opens.
But the deal rests on whether West Ham can stump up his £60,000-a-week wages.
Any loan move would cost £1.5m (€2.3m) and then the club would re-assess the situation in the summer.
