  • Sam, Sebastian, and Abigail now go to the saloon on fridays after you marry them.

  • Fruit tree harvesting now involves shaking the tree to drop the fruit

  • Charcoal Kiln now requires 10 wood to produce 1 coal, down from 20
  • Maxed-out friendship levels will no longer decay
  • Added another digit to the shipping menu money counters.

  • Tools left in chests within farm buildings won't count as "missing"
  • Poppy properly consumed in poppyseed muffin recipe
  • Can no longer incorrectly "consume" trap bobbers (click to make them disappear with strange sound)
  • Agriculturist profession no longer causes an extra 25% growth rate when speed-gro isn't present. Speed increase effects should now properly apply to very slow-growing crops.
  • Fixed sunflower seed price at JojaMart

20 March

New Build -- 1.06

With version 1.06, the first steps are taken to improving marriage in Stardew Valley! Each spouse now has a unique dialogue sheet, and leaves the house at least once a week to visit town or take a walk. In short, they retain a lot more of their unique "personality" after marriage.

Changelog:

  • Added unique dialogues for all spouses.
  • Spouses now leave the house on mondays.
  • Value of most animal products increased.
  • Holly is now poisonous.
  • Missing events problem shouldn't happen anymore.
  • Minor bug/grammar/graphics fixes.

Note: animal product prices and edibility of Holly will only take effect on items generated after the update. items that already existed before updating will still have the old prices/edilbility.

There will be more marriage improvements to come. Hope you're having a nice weekend.

Edit: uploaded another quick patch that should fix the problem where spouses had a speech bubble but no speech, and also the farm rampage.

About This Game

Stardew Valley is an open-ended country-life RPG!

You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home? It won't be easy. Ever since Joja Corporation came to town, the old ways of life have all but disappeared. The community center, once the town's most vibrant hub of activity, now lies in shambles. But the valley seems full of opportunity. With a little dedication, you might just be the one to restore Stardew Valley to greatness!

Features
  • Turn your overgrown field into a lively farm! Raise animals, grow crops, start an orchard, craft useful machines, and more! You'll have plenty of space to create the farm of your dreams.

  • Improve your skills over time. As you make your way from a struggling greenhorn to a master farmer, you'll level up in 5 different areas: farming, mining, combat, fishing, and foraging. As you progress, you'll learn new cooking and crafting recipes, unlock new areas to explore, and customize your skills by choosing from a variety of professions.

  • Become part of the local community. With over 30 unique characters living in Stardew Valley, you won't have a problem finding new friends! Each person has their own daily schedule, birthday, unique mini-cutscenes, and new things to say throughout the week and year. As you make friends with them, they will open up to you, ask you for help with their personal troubles, or tell you their secrets! Take part in seasonal festivals such as the luau, haunted maze, and feast of the winter star.

  • Explore a vast, mysterious cave. As you travel deeper underground, you'll encounter new and dangerous monsters, powerful weapons, new environments, valuable gemstones, raw materials for crafting and upgrading tools, and mysteries to be uncovered.

  • Breathe new life into the valley. Since JojaMart opened, the old way of life in Stardew Valley has changed. Much of the town's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair. Help restore Stardew Valley to it's former glory by repairing the old community center, or take the alternate route and join forces with Joja Corporation.

  • Court and marry a partner to share your life on the farm with. There are 10 available bachelors and bachelorettes to woo, each with unique character progression cutscenes. Once married, your partner will live on the farm with you. Who knows, maybe you'll have kids and start a family?

  • Spend a relaxing afternoon at one of the local fishing spots. The waters are teeming with seasonal varieties of delicious fish. Craft bait, bobbers, and crab pots to help you in your journey toward catching every fish and becoming a local legend!

  • Donate artifacts and minerals to the local museum.

  • Cook delicious meals and craft useful items to help you out. With over 100 cooking and crafting recipes, you'll have a wide variety of items to create. Some dishes you cook will even give you temporary boosts to skills, running speed, or combat prowess. Craft useful objects like scarecrows, oil makers, furnaces, or even the rare and expensive crystalarium.

  • Customize the appearance of your character and house. With hundreds of decorative items to choose from, you'll have no trouble creating the home of your dreams!

  • Xbox controller support (with rumble)! (Keyboard still required for text input)

  • Over two hours of original music.

Harvest Moon was my gateway into the world of gaming. I don't even know how many hours tiny me spent sitting with the Gamecube staring up at the big TV running around trying to be a successful farmer. I don't know how it took me so long to finally buy this beautiful love letter to the game that got me into games. All I know is I bought it for myself last night as a present after a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ week and 6.6 hours later it was almost summer of my first year and I really needed to go to bed. I am just as in love with and enchanted by this game as I was as a child with Harvest Moon. Maybe it's just nostalgia. Maybe it's just this being an incredible game. Either way, I know I'll be sinking many, many more hours into Stardew Valley to once again be the best farmer I can be.

The music makes me feel warm.

Don't mind the hours played on Steam. It's really wayyyy more.

Now, I'm gonna be short about Stardew Valley, since everyone has pretty much covered it all.

So .... buy it. Really. It's a great game. It keeps you busy without going dull.

You can mine.
Fish.
Farm.
Hump animals for milk.
Take shrooms.
Eat wild eel.
Build fences.
Kill Slime.
Goto the "Casino".
Pick through someone else's trash.
Dance.
Chop wood.
Pan for gold. Yeehaw!
Ride a horse.
Flash your goods.
You can marry that dream girl with purple hair and likes video games but in real life she already has a boyfriend and you make yourself like pathetic asking her out and getting rejected ..

Humph.

This is truly an amazing game. I can play hours and not get bored. There are many ways to play the game and succeed as a farmer, no matter how you do it. The character backgrounds and Stories are really good and there's plenty of bachelors to marry. I also enjoyed that it was up to the player to chose, and could choose both sexes. You seriously won't regret buying this game, it's so addictive!

I just finished year one, and i've gotta say...I love it. I wonder what will surprise me in year 2. :O Game is definitely worth buying, if you're into calm and relaxing games. If you're stressed out from work or dealing with kids, then this is the game for you! Fishing, Combat, Mining, Farming, and much more! A slow paced game that always has room for more! Co-op will be coming out btw. :D

One of the best games I've come across lately. I love the retro look. Reminds me of Harvest Moon, especially the older one for gameboy that I used to play as a kid. If you haven't bought this game, you should do so now and stop wasting precious playing time reading these reviews!

THIS GAME IS RUINING MY LIFE!

I thought that it's a cute game, so i bought it.
I started playing, at 6pm after i got off work.
I farmed, made friends, did some stuff... Oh ...It's summer already?
Let me just give this gift to someone... oh *character* wants this? I have it. Lemme go get it.
Well since I'm here I'll fish a little.
Oh, free stuff on the ground.
Oh, luck is on my side today? I'll go mining then.
Well tomorrow's the festival, so I might as well play one more day.
Omg my crops are done!
Hey, one more heart and I can get in Marnie's room to get the mayor's underpants.
Oh, i have some stuff to put in the community center.
Bridge repaired? Lemme go see.
*Gets sidetracked by 5000 other things*
Aaand it's 5am and i have to go to work in 2 hours....

At what point can you write a review for Stardew Valley? Can you ever finish the game? Would you ever want to? For reasons that are hard to explain, this is one of the best games I've ever played.

This title is about nothing except escapism. You will trade your life, ideally on a temporary basis, for the life of your self-designed character in Stardew Valley. In the game, you escape your boring cubicle job to live a simpler life as a farmer in a close community that is struggling to stay relevant in an increasingly conglomerate-dominated western society. The game manages to argue an anti-corporate-America "Wal-Mart is bad, but not inherently evil" agenda in such a real way that is impossible to ignore; all the while providing you the opportunity to choose for yourself; and unabashedly encouraging you to embrace capitalism to maximize the value of your labor and intellect. The game succeeds in this alternative reality in much the same way The Sims captured so many gamers' hearts. In Stardew it seems you are able to achieve things that perhaps you cannot achieve in real life. However, you will leave the game feeling happy, uplifted, and hopeful.

Beneath this existentialism is a day-to-day deluge of strangely addicting activities. Mine, farm, make friends, help the community, cook, craft equipment, manage your finances, fish (oh how I love to fish), forage, ranch, etc, etc.... By providing more structure, than say Minecraft's survival mode, the game succeeds in guiding us something much more fulfilling.

The aesthetic, think of it as an improved 16-bit Legend of Zelda, you will soak it in. It is my phone's background. You will learn to love the bright colors and simple sprites while despising the grittiness of real life. The music, it's so simple it should drive you mad, but it's so happy it will soothe your soul.

Reading discussions, you will hear of gamers who are self-treating their anxiety, depression, mental illnesses. There is something very special about this game. There is something very important about this game. It will brighten your days and provide you with a measure of joy. The saddest part is, I feel like I might be ready to move on.....

What is Stardew Valley?

Stardew Valley is, simply said, my GOTY 2016! Since this review will contain minor spoilers, stop reading now, just buy the game, even at the full price, and spend the next dozens of hours in Stardew Valley!

This review is based on an incomplete experience, I did not even get to the first winter yet. I have only 30 hours in the game, as I write this, and that is nothing. Still, after almost three months after the release, it is time to make this review. And yet, this is not an ordinary review, it is more like a love letter.

Stardew Valley is a farm simulator. Calling it a Harvest Moon clone, however, would be like calling Quake a Wolfenstein 3D clone. The game takes elements from Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, mixes them all together, and presents us with a small world to explore that holds its mysteries.

The story is simple at first: You work for Joja, a huge company, and get tired of your life there. So you move to a farm that once belonged to your grandfather. You arrive there with a character you created yourself - boy or girl - and start your new life. You meet the townspeople, start seeding and watering your first crops, and soon notice that Joja also has a business in town. Your first real conflict comes from the Community Center. Will you help rebuilding it to its former glory, or will you assist Joja in expanding their company? After a few days, you discover that an old mine has opened, and you can start mining ores to improve your farm tools. Eventually you can build more farm buildings and work with animals or even slimes. You can fish, you can forage, and you meet more people, unlock a few more places to visit eventually. You can even fight and sell monster remains, or use them to craft things.

Gameplay:
Well, the gameplay follows very much the Rune Factory formula. The controls are fine, but you should enable the option that makes you see what field your tools will work on. Like in Rune Factory etc. you run around and can converse or use tools with a simple click. As said above, there are many things to do - would you rather grow crops, forage shells, fish or mine? Or all together? In each profession you level up and unlock new blueprints that you can craft, including better sprinklers, so you will want to specialize in everything sooner or later. But the progress often comes naturally, just as you play. And then you have the mysteries to unravel: What are the mysterious creatures in the community center? What does the wizard know? Where are the mayor's pants? Umm, okay, I solved the latter one, but let us just not talk about it. Anyway, the quests, awkwars as they might be, often help giving personality to the characters, of which you also have 10 marriage candidates. And yes, you DO have the homosexual options. Although, to my (hetero male) taste, there is maybe only one or two male candidates out of the five possible ones, that are appealing at all. As for the women, the ones I would love are not relationship options... here's looking at you, Robin.

One word of warning, though (as I said, minor spoilers): It is possible to lose animals to wolves or something. As there is no option to make manual saves, this was a gamebreaker for one of my friends who could not find the heart afterwards to go on anymore, and instead played other games again.

Music:
The music is great, it really fits the game.

Graphics:
The graphics are held in a style that reminds of console games, but run absolutely smooth. The world has a distinctive yet familiar look, it feels like a 1990s SNES RPG. I mean, just look at the screenshots at the store page.

Recommended: Yes! Even at full price! In fact the game is so good, I even bought another copy at full price to gift it to a friend!

Oh, and did I mention that this masterpiece was made by one guy alone? That's right, ConcernedApe, as he likes to be called, has created the graphics, music, game code and everything else alone! Kudos!

Now stop reading and start playing the game!

Stardew valley will never win any points for originality, but what it does, it does exceptionally well.

It brings Harvest Moon, a very under represented type of game these days to PC, and it does it much better than the game that inspired it.

This game is is thoughtful, addictive, relaxing and just plain fun to play.

The music is also brilliant, you will be humming it's catchy tunes all day long.

With almost 300 hours on this game I muse admit that I'm a little addicted. There is something with doing simple farming that really relaxes your brain that I just love. I have roughly 80 games in my steam account and this games seems to be the go to when I just want to relax. I recommend this game for any age and I enjoy that the price is well worth it. I was almost a little turned away after te first winter hit since I caught myself with nothing to do, but after the first year I was able to learn the ropes and prepare for the next winter so I had things to do. In my opinion this game is 9/10 and I love it :)

Help me! I started playing near the end of my college quarter and I can't stop! Other good games have come out but the peacefulness, colorful visuals, soothing music and well-writen characters make it hard to stick to the promise of "Just one more day" or "I'll stop when I finish this day". Stardew Valley is such a well crafted game that it has distracted me from more serious and important things in my life. I haven't been this drawn into a game in a long time. Sure I've found games I like but not like this. This game is hard to stop.

I would recommend if you enjoy Animal Crossing and/or Harvest Moon.

An Open-World Country-Life RPG
https://youtu.be/Mav4HVD5lrc
+ Visually the game looks absolutely gorgeous, you can instantly tell a TON of work went into creating all the sprites, likely one of the best 2D games of this style I have ever seen. Very cute, colorful, and filled with detail.
+ Has a ton of charm, I would say it's like Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, and a bit of Terraria/Minecraft although in my opinion Stardew Valley is much better as far as a single player expeirence.
+ Surprisingly has a TON of things to do. It seems like every single day there's "something" new going on in the world, and the game constantly gives you new goals to work torward while opening up new mechanics consistantly without overwhelming the player.
+ Extremely addicting and filled with loads of content, many people will invest 20-50hours+ into this game
+ Lovely relaxing soundtrack
+ There are full-on retro-styled games within the game. "Mini-games" if you will, but I was completely surprised at how good they were. I spent over an hour playing "Journey of The Prairie King" which is one of the arcade games in the Saloon which to me was a load of fun.
+ Loads of quests and events
+ Player choice / branching story. I'm not too far into the game at this moment, but you are able to support "Joja Mart" which is like an evil Walmart corporation trying to take the towns business, or you can choose to support the town instead by building up the community center and so fourth.
+ Many different ways to earn money, you can farm, raise animals, fish, mine, quests, forage or "explore" and find all sorts of items to sell, and so on.
+ There is even a combat system where you fight monsters in the mines, and can get new weapons, equipment, and earn many rewards.
+ Relationships / Friends / Children! You can even have a gay relationship, and adopt a child if you wish!
+ Crafting / Upgrades, you can craft a large variety of items, and unlock more as you expand your house, level your skills, and advance through the game. Many of which are optional, but give benefits like sprinklers to water your crops for you.

- The only real issue I had is a lot of the information you need is not given to you, and you will have to use a guide/wiki in order to find out a lot of things in the game.

Its a great game with a really good gameplay.
Every NPC in this game has a different personality and is different. So you dont think after 2 hours of playing "hmm hes like everyone lese". You think wow another NPC who has different likes or dislikes!.
The farming system is also great. You can plant different seeds in different seasons. You can sell what you earn, gift it to the npcs or use it to craft there are many ways to use the things.
You can go into the mines to get ores or go fishing and many other things in this game.
There developer of this game did a great job with this game. There are so much details in the game that you find something new every day, every month or even every year.
I really recommend this game.
Thanks for reading this Review. Have a nice day!

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator, to put it simply. It incorporates RPG and dating simulator elements, and has an "8-bit" artstyle. It's quite clearly inspired and influenced by the Harvest Moon series.

One of the biggest things I appreciate in this game is the ability to skip the intro, along with other cutscenes, allowing you to start a new game and make different choices without filler that you've already seen. It has a pretty slow start in regards to getting past cutscenes into gameplay, and getting your farm cleared and up and running. The fairly large amount of farmland starts out overgrown with trees and grass, and littered with logs and rocks.

Alongside farming, you can fish, make friends with the folks in town, and delve into the mines to dig around for materials and fight monsters. The mines are entertaining enough, and plenty challenging once you actually get far enough. Fishing is a little frustrating, the minigame involved is weird and bouncy, causing some unavoidable misses. The relationship system is simple, give gifts, talk to people, go through events, etc.

The music is enjoyable, it's simple, fitting, and a joy to listen to, but doesn't play often enough. Can't say I'd listen to anything like it in my off time though. The artstyle gets the job done. I'm not a fan of the pixel style of the portraits, but maybe that's just the Harvest Moon bias sneaking in. Overall, it's quite clear that he put a lot of heart in this game.

    Pros
  • Addictive, plain and simple
  • Extremely polished, especially for an indie release by one person.
  • Music is nice
  • Ability to skip cutscenes and intros, not overtly common in this style of games
  • Well paced, time doesn't feel too slow or fast

    Cons
  • Fishing minigame is bouncy, and causes failure that is unavoidable on occasion
  • Art style isn't really original
  • It's the reason I don't have plans on weekends anymore

Final Thoughts:
Overall, it's really enjoyable. The hardcore shooter/action game fan may not like this, but it's well made and filled with passion.

Rating: 9/10

I first pegged this game as a Harvest Moon rip-off, but I see it as way more than a "copy". It's completely different and I am quite okay with it! The pacing of the game is what gets me - time passes slowly in the game, so the theme of the game is more relaxed. I also love the opportunities to let the player pick their money-earning specialty, they could be a fisherman, a miner, adventurer, you name it, it's not just about the crops, and I love it! I am hoping for more NPC development across the years (wouldn't it be cool to see your neighbors grow up and get married, too?) and a future multiplayer option, but overall, this game is solid. Easy to use mechanics, and fair conditions for making a successful farm. I love this game so far! 50+ hours so far and feeling great about it!

AMAZING game! You have so much you can do with it! I got it as a gift from my boyfriend and he did not expect me to play it as much as I do.

This little game really takes me back to the days when I was 11 years old.
At that point in my young life, I learned the MLG skill (Yes, it is a fact, I was MLG before MLG even exsisted) of "no lifeing" vidji games. I secretly, hardcore, no lifed many SNES games.. Zelda, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and also, Harvest Moon. So, welcome back Harvest Moon, you have truly been missed. :)

12/10 would harvest the moon again.
